Need and desire are wilfully blurred in a crimson haze throughout shopping centres, all the more garish when seen beside the muted colours of rough sleepers in streets and doorways. The consumerism he shows is resistant to examination, to questions like: “What good comes of this?”These photographs show a different but equally shocking contrast — the ever more discordant commercialism, with glossy and brash store windows, shopping mall displays, the crass glitter of the festive season. This is a photographic sermon, to invite us to compassion. Title A name given to the resource Sea, Sunshine & Dangerous Tans Description An account of the resource To think of how to summarise a group of pictures is difficult, especially when the first photobooks I ever saw were those of Don McCullin and James Nachtwey. I had a desire to follow in those footsteps despite feeling queasy at the sight of blood. I wanted not only to be able to make powerful, hard-hitting images but I wanted to be able to write so beautifully just as Nachtwey does. His words flowing together so eloquently, so carefully considered much like his photography. But unlike the truth in his words "the events recorded should never be repeated" here lies a small, fun, 42 pages of sun where the events in this book should never be forgotten, and absolutely should be repeated. Because it seems to me that all one would need to be in a state of perpetual happiness is some sun, a place to park one's arse, an ice-cold alcoholic beverage and easy access to food.
