<text>The self-published debut book from Tokyo-based photographer Nico Perez, ‘Momentary’ is filled with images showing moments in time, which he seeks to portray in a poetic way so as to reflect how emotions, people, surroundings, and life in general are all momentary. From intimate family portraits and interactions, to tranquil natural and urban scenes, his images are soft, hazy, and dreamlike. Originally from Spain, Perez moved to Japan in 2009 and now works as a freelance photographer, drawing inspiration from colours and the delicate qualities of light, and capturing how these can influence one’s mood.</text>

Julien Sage is a twenty one year old photographer currently living and working in Los Angeles. Julien has been photographing LA's growing music scene since early 2012 but has recently changed focus and is now working in a social documentary mode, photographing the people and environments that are provided to him. Before moving back to Los Angeles, Julien spent two years in the Oakland CA, where he studied photography at California College of The Arts. Taking great inspiration from both Nan Goldin and Stephen Shore, Julien's work functions as a curious dissection of the anxiety of youth as well as the pleasures it may hold. </text>

<text>In the summer of 2018, Italian photographer Giovanni Riccó travelled along the Iberian coast for a total of 5651 kilometre in a converted van. This long coast has been occupied by various empires but despite their size, locations or cultural and historical dispositions, the coastal towns all share an immense natural beauty and a deep connection with water.

Giovanni Riccó was born and raised in Vignola, Italy. Currently based in Valencia, Spain, his photographs intend to capture the diverse cultures, landscapes and people he meets on the street.</text>

<text>“According to the World Health Organization, 300 million people around the world have depression. Like many of those people, I felt hopeless, and had no sense of joy; I had a total depletion of confidence, and a generally bleak outlook on life. This photo book became my purpose and dedication to not only get better, but to reconnect with my passion once again.”
Mental illness is an invisible disability. Just because someone is physically capable doesn’t mean they are not going through pain and trauma. This book is a photo journal of the first six months of the artist’s mental health journey during 2015- 2016. This book, its contents and physical production, represents the artist’s internal struggle with perfection, fragility, and transparency. For this series the artist used photography as a method of self-reflection to acknowledge of the imperfections in her surroundings and in herself. Nathalie wanted to create this book to destigamtize the topic of mental health, to hopefully encourage others to seek help.
Included are photographs, anxiety-induced drawings, scans of the artist’s person- al journal at the time, and short, self-soothing notes. The book is approximately 42x60cm in spread, without a distinctive hard or soft cover; forcing the viewer to slowly look through the details of this large, delicate object, much like how one should approach their own mental health. The printing process allows each copy to be slightly unique, keeping with the concept of acceptance of imperfection.</text>

Shot over the course of a year – from the arrival of the first cherry blossom through the Japanese Autumn – during nights spent in ryokans and love hotels throughout Japan.

Echoing the Japanese adoration for Hanami (The annual tradition of welcoming the briefly blossoming Sakura, enjoying that moment and celebrating all it represents) the intimacy captured in Sakura Lust floats somewhere between an erotic dream and reality.

The book serves as a lust story, an attempt to seize a fleeting moment in life and make it last indefinitely.</text>

<text>'Sunday: A Portrait of 21st Century England' is a photo book that documents what people do on a Sunday and how that reflects society in 21st century England.

Sundays evolve as we age; our childhood memories are often held dear and as adults, we associate Sunday with the chance to relax and switch off from work and the world.

However, the last few decades have seen a huge shift away from traditional churchgoing, while consumerism and digital culture have changed the way we use our time. So what impact have these changes had on our ability to relax and be with ourselves? And how does the way we spend our leisure time reflect the nature of society in 21st century England?

After four years living and working abroad, photographer Matt Writtle returned to England and noticed a distinct cultural shift: church attendance had continued to decline while Sunday trading legislation and the growth of the internet had contributed to faster-paced, 24/7 lifestyles, making it harder for people to switch off from work and the world. It was this shift that inspired Sunday.

From 2006 to 2016, he documented the habits of a nation on its traditional day of rest, to see how they reflect our increasingly secular society. He selected subjects spanning a range of ages, backgrounds and locations across England, from a group of blind ramblers and a halal chicken farmer to a football fan and shoppers at Ikea.

Published after a successful Kickstarter campaign, his resulting photo book, 'Sunday', tells the story of 12 English Sundays and offers a snapshot of 21st century England.</text>

<text>Aya offers insight into the life of a young Japanese woman living in Tokyo. Francesca Allen (b. 1993, British) shares an intimate month spent with musician Aya Yanase, also known as Aya Gloomy. Unable to speak the same language, the series documents a growing friendship using photography as the sole medium of communication.

We first meet Aya in the suburbs of Tokyo. Her tiny apartment is beneath that of her Grandma who sometimes throws snacks from her balcony for Aya to catch. Aya’s home is full to the brim of everything one could imagine, with piles of dishes and clothes everywhere.

The month is simultaneously the happiest but most exhausting time; Francesca and Aya do everything together. Taking photographs becomes almost secondary. They introduce each other to their friends, they stay out too late and miss the train, sleeping at friends’ houses and Aya is shy and giggling when she gets undressed. The personal exposure involved in making the intimate public is tender and rare. This series of photographs enables a window into the vulnerabilities of both women who almost revel in the novelty of the experience. Aya is one year younger than Francesca, and they meet at similar points in their lives, perhaps feeling similar things.

As their relationship develops, the book narrows in on a delicate and exciting period of new womanhood. The work builds a sense of belonging and friendship as Francesca turns her gaze adoringly on Aya, harnessing her energy to reveal strength and fragility. Aya is the represented subject, but through her photographs and the relationship that emerges between the two women, the division between representer and subject is diffused and we also understand a little of Francesca.</text>
