Description

When it comes to making images, I realise now that I’m a slow learner. For years I pursued what I thought was – and is – a correct approach to taking photographs: in focus, rule of thirds, balanced exposure, composition, light, shape, blah blah…. Not to say that I was good at it, I just supported the idea that if I kept pursuing these things, my images would, maybe, well, somehow become great, or at least good enough for…something?

Then I discovered Japanese photography.

Although I have categorised the images into chapters, the only real authentic relationship between the images in this collection is that they were taken by me; anywhere from a portrait in Croydon, South London, to houses carved out of the rocks in Coober Pedy, Central South Australia. Some were taken on a 6x6 Rolleiflex, some on a (slightly faulty) 35mm Canon, and a few from my Phone.
But then, it’s not about the camera, it’s about the image, right?
