Description
Vandr completes long-term documentary project of Oldřich Malachta. Through contemporary photography, the book describes the phenomenon of Czech tramping and its subculture as something very particular for the Czech Republic. Malachta observes activities of a few groups; he wanders with them from spring to winter, photographs them, becomes one of them. Tramping represents also a playground for him, where it is possible to explore various visual strategies. He combines a traditional medium format portrait, analogue snapshot aesthetics, and after returning home, he works with the archive and with found artefacts. The project expands into sociology and themes like family, leisure activities or escaping mundane routine.
