<text>This is a series of photographs documenting motorbikes in urban environments. Taken across Europe over the course of four years, the series was inspired by a perceived disconnect between how motorbikes are designed to look, and how I see them on a daily basis. It’s not about the object itself, but the idea of it. The images dissect the motorbikes by focussing on the graphic elements of their design and construction. This mirrors the abstraction of the object outside of its
intended use, as the motorbikes are not serving their intended purpose by standing still and abandoned. Through the intense focus on repetitive elements the images directly question ideas of independence and individuality, and how individual aesthetic choices connected to aspirational feelings shape the world around us.

The abstraction is further underlined by the graphic conception of the publication. It attempts to order the series according to recurring elements within the images, while at the same time keeping the chaotic nature of how they would be encountered, by focussing on layering, white space and variations in image sizing.
