Mechanical Spring is the spring season of machinery, not just a piece of hardware. Threading through the city, industrial machines mistaken for installation art, and teenage indie music, I want to capture some scenes more underground than “underground.” I have always wanted to get closer to music. But even in the music venues in uk, as an audience, I’m still the one who leaves after the show. Even in these already peripheral indie scenes, there is still a sense of being unnoticed. I remain more marginal than the margins. My photos are all taken from the crowd, out of focus, too high iso, or too slow shutter speed, always unstable, blurred, and never able to get closer to the stage. There are too many talented people in this world. As a listener and even an Asian, I wonder if I should simply get used to this position? Sometimes I even imagine building a scene with my friends, something deeper than the underground, just jamming or making some noise together. So I’m always listening to music sorrowfully, at the same time enjoying it with a kind of bliss, envying those who are in the midst of creating it.
