Sikkim is the photobook, a series of photos of young skateboarders in northeast India around the Himalayas.
I first met the kids on the rooftop of a popular market building. They skate there everyday, calling it “Terrace”. It was packed with a diversity of characters.
There were masala chai ladies, homeless, and those that were simply hanging out after shopping. The kids seemed completely oblivious of all the distractions that I see, as they were completely absorbed in skating.
I had planned to stay just for a few days in the beginning, but then I bumped into the kids and didn’t leave until one month later.
In this series, I wanted to show an evolution of intimacy with the kids. I wanted the audience to follow the path as I got to know them and got close to them, as the series of a journey.
