<text>During the lockdown period due the Covid virus. We all where constricted in our homes and borders.

Before this all happened. I was planning to travel around and make a photo project. But these plans all felt down the drain.

This made me wonder. What can I do now, how can I still make a body of work in these times?

I’ve had all these dreams to travel far away and making photographs. Just me and my camera, back to how it started for me.

But being stuck at home, made me realize. That I actually know very little about my own country. I always lived in city’s. And especially living in Amsterdam (where I live now) you likely will accommodate in a bubble. A capital bubble.

This almost makes you blind for what is happening outside of that bubble. Recognizing this, made me wonder how the ‘outside’ was looking like. How do the birds sing, people think, live and where do my actual roots coming from.

So I borrowed a bike, because with my city bike I would not get that far. Bought a small tent and left my small apartment in Amsterdam. Into the world of flatlands, unpredictable weather, water, cows and stubborn but kind people.

The series became a on the road photo project. It made me look from a different angle to the country that I live in.

With the photo’s I try to take you with me on this trip. I hope that when you look at the images you almost can feel te cold of the rain, hear the sound of the birds and sense the smell of the soup that has been on the stove the whole day.

If you take a look at this project I think you can find a part of it that can be documentary, but also a part of it feels poetic to me. And that is what I love about photography. There always be this thin line between reality and fiction.</text>
