Title A name given to the resource If You're Fond Of Sand Dunes Description An account of the resource The Humberston Fitties In Summer. The plotland movement developed at the turn of the 20th century and gained pace in the interwar years as people escaped the cramped and dirty towns and cities of Britain for their own piece of paradise in the countryside or by the coast. These pieces of land were on the margins, hilly landscapes or fields thick with clay that were unprofitable to farm but could be rented out as plots where disused railways carriages could be placed or timber chalets could be constructed, adapted and used as a place of escape. A change in planning laws in 1948 slowly brought the end of many of these plotlands through demolition, conversion to static caravan holiday parks or as they became permanent residences. A few still survive though, dotted around the country. One of those precarious survivors is the Humberston Fitties, named after the local word for salt marsh, in North East Lincolnshire. This selection of photographs, taken between 2011 & 2021, is the second in a long term series and shows the Fitties as spring stumbles into summer, full of colour.
