Denmark Street has hosted music publishers, instrument shops, gig venues, and recording studios. The Rolling Stones recorded their first album there, Elton John wrote songs on a roof, and David Bowie lived in a converted ambulance. It also played its part in the history of punk as, early in their career, The Sex Pistols lived and recorded there. I’d heard that Johnny Rotten had adorned the walls there with graffiti of the band and its associates, so decided to try and gain access to photograph them.
