PSEUDOKULTURE
Title
PSEUDOKULTURE
Description
What was the last thing that you purposefully postponed?
Maybe, it was calling an old friend or beginning that book. How often do we say ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, with little time to slow the treadmill of the wake-work cycle - in the comfort of knowing that tomorrow will look & feel pretty similar to yesterday?
In turn, we can put our hobbies and the people we love on hold. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, if there was ever a time to wake up & step away from this routine and the attitude of postponement - embracing our creative outlets - it’s now. Writing, designing & editing the first extended published feature from pseudokulture, from scratch, was time well spent as a personal & creative release during this 150 week process. There have been some late nights, heartbreaks, several ‘I can’t do this’ moments & a lot of time for self-reflection, asking myself, in the long-term, what do I want pseudokulture to be?
Having grown from an instagram-based curation account, sharing in the talents and stories of nearing 500 creators since its inception in 2018, the first & simple idea of asking my favourite creators: ‘what does kulture mean to you?’ laid the foundation for a growing online safe space for over 30,000 people; an escape where lesser-heard voices & inspiring projects in the visual arts, kulture & sound can be shared. It’s been a whirlwind four years since that first instagram post, guessing that there’s no better time to introduce pseudokulture: EDITION 01. The answer to my new rhetorical question, in what I want pseudokulture to be, should unfold in the next 164 pages.
Paper cuts are expected, we’ve got a lot to see and read.
